Car Seat Safety

Contact Us

Do you need information about the different types of car seats or the car seat your child is currently in?

  • What seat should my child be using?
  • How long can my child use his/her current seat?
  • What is the next seat my child will need?
  • How can I keep my child as safe as possible in the vehicle?

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of  death for children ages 2 to 14.  (NHTSA, 2002)

Did you know that nearly 90% of car seats are used or installed improperly?  Or that children should remain in boosters until they can meet the 5-step test (usually after their 8th birthday)?

At Success By 6 of the Palouse, we believe very strongly in making sure all of our young community members are as safe as they can be when riding in a vehicle.  Child passenger safety is a very vast subject, with lots of car seats, laws, "best practice", and obscure rules.  It should be intuitive and easy to do the right thing, but unfortunately it often is not.  That's why we have both a Child Passenger Safety Technician and a Child Passenger Safety Technician-Instructor dedicated to helping you determine the safest way to transport your children.  We offer information on any aspect of passenger safety, from car seats & boosters to vehicle safety features.  We also offer free, one-on-one car seat check ups so you can make sure your car seat is being installed and used properly and that your child is in the best seat for him/her.  In addition, we can provide educational group classes for interested parties. Please contact Janice at 509-597-8917, Karen at 208-596-6846, or Patricia at 208-301-8150.

Janice is a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician-Instructor (since 2007) and mother of four.

Karen is a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician
(since 2011) and mother of two.

Patricia is a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician
